Executive Director Job Description

The Staunton Creative Community Fund, Inc. (SCCF) is a dynamic nonprofit community development organization that brings vitality and innovation to the Shenandoah Valley by supporting, funding, and inspiring local entrepreneurs. As an organization, our purpose is to create the neighborhoods in which people actually want to live by helping entrepreneurs cultivate their dreams of owning or expanding a small business. SCCF’s programs include lending to start-up and expanding small businesses, community and entrepreneur networking events, educational programming, business and nonprofit consulting, as well as a diverse and evolving array of economic development initiatives.

SCCF also specializes in working with targeted industries, arts and cultural organizations, and businesses locating in downtown or revitalizing districts. SCCF is seeking a full-time Executive Director who is passionate about the organization’s mission and who exemplifies the type of entrepreneurial spirit SCCF works to cultivate in its clients and community. Strong partnership, leadership, communication, and fundraising skills are required. Experience in community development, small business lending, business training and education, and related fields is sought.

A successful applicant will be a strong manager, an innovative leader, and able to connect with a diverse range of stakeholder groups as part of his or her community development role. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team working to change how we think about and use Capital, Community and Support to transform our local economy. The Executive Director provides organizational leadership and is responsible for implementing the policy directives of the Board of Directors.

Primary responsibilities include:

● Implement the policy directives of the Board of Directors, provide organizational leadership in strategic planning efforts, annual and quarterly budget preparation, and maintain day-to-day management of all Fund activities and initiatives.

● Lead all organizational fundraising efforts, including grant writing, grant reporting, programrelated income, private investments, and donations.

● Manage small business development and recruitment efforts, which integrates microloan financing, business consulting, training and education, nonprofit incubation, direct incentives, and other programs as developed.

● Identify, recommend, and pursue new opportunities and/or programs that complement and enhance the mission of the organization.

● Serve as the public face of SCCF, and lead SCCF’s marketing, outreach, and recruitment activities.

● Oversee all other SCCF employees and consultants. Manage the staffing structure of the organization to be sustainable and nimble across a diversity of funding sources. SCCF is looking for a highly organized person with attention to detail who is a creative problem solver. Integrity, reliability, and the ability to work independently are also essential for this role.

Experience with grant writing, MS office products, Google apps, and social media is a must. Experience with Salesforce and a working knowledge of investing principles preferred. Experience in program management, staff management and coordinating organizational teamwork. Demonstrated capacity to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, including government entities, nonprofits, businesses, lenders and the general public. The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively with boards of directors, councils and/or commissions, and the public.

Director of Business Support

Do you want to put your passion for creative entrepreneurship to work here in our community?

The Staunton Creative Community Fund is seeking a full time Director of Business Support to help businesses start and grow here in the Shenandoah Valley. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small but mighty team working to change how we think about and use money to transform our local economy. The position is responsible for the following tasks:

 

  • Client Support

 

    • Meet one on one. Provide client counseling services for business plan and financials development, marketing plan development, vendor connection, and other consulting needs applicable to clients.
    • Teach about running a business. Plan and facilitate our 8 week Business Planning Class series, our intro class series, and other special topic seminars.
    • Develop resources. Collaborate on creating industry-specific resources pertaining to our Taste Local and Create Local initiatives.
    • Connect people. Facilitate mentorship relationships between clients and appropriate community members.

 

  • Manage the Save Local program

 

    • Recruit clients for match savings program. Identify and cultivate entrepreneurs and businesses who may become Virginia Individual Development Account (VIDA) clients.
    • Support match savings clients. Assist clients in the creation and submission of VIDA applications, withdrawals, and closing of accounts.
    • Teach about financial literacy. Plan and facilitate financial literacy trainings and outreach.

 

  • Community related tasks shared with all staff

 

    • Maintain positive relationships with clients, community partners, and similar resource organizations.
    • Contribute to the SCCF blog and social media platforms.
    • Occasionally, staff and attend after hours events hosted by the Fund or partner organizations.

SCCF is looking for a highly organized person with attention to detail who is a creative problem solver. Integrity, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team are essential for this role. Extra points will be given to candidates who include the word “lightning” in their application email subject line. Basic comfort with technology is also important: we use MS Office, Google Apps, social media, WordPress, Mailchimp, Canva, and Salesforce. While we don’t expect prior experience with all of those things, we do expect a confident readiness to learn.

Are you crushing the college game but want to get involved with building our community? We appreciate interns that bring new energy and support to our work of helping start and grow small businesses in Virginia’s Central Shenandoah Valley.

We provide our fellows with an opportunity to dig in and work on real projects. We promise that you won’t be fetching us coffee or spending your entire time making copies. It will be real projects with a real impact. We aren’t shy, we expect a lot from our fellows.
